Strategic Acquisition Expands Syngenta’s Global Biologicals Portfolio with Cutting-Edge NUE Solutions
Syngenta has announced the acquisition of Intrinsyx Bio, a California-based start-up specializing in nutrient use efficiency (NUE) products. This strategic move strengthens Syngenta’s global position in the fast-growing biologicals market, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable agriculture and improved crop performance.
The acquisition brings Syngenta full access to Intrinsyx Bio’s proprietary technologies and product pipeline, positioning the company to lead the rapidly expanding NUE segment—one of the fastest-growing sectors within the agricultural biologicals industry.
Advancing Sustainable Farming Through NUE Innovation
Intrinsyx Bio has gained recognition for its innovative work in biological nutrient efficiency, including its collaboration with Syngenta on NUELLO® iN, a seed treatment designed to enhance nutrient uptake and optimize crop yields. With its products already commercialized across the US, UK, Benelux, and Iberia, the company has laid the foundation for broader global expansion.
The integration of Intrinsyx Bio’s NUE expertise into Syngenta’s global R&D and commercial network will accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation biological seed treatments and inputs aimed at improving fertilizer efficiency, lowering environmental impact, and increasing yield potential.
“This acquisition supports Syngenta’s biologicals leadership and commitment to shaping a new era of agriculture,” the company stated. “It empowers growers with solutions that deliver higher yields and reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers.”
Market and Export Dynamics
The acquisition is also strategically aligned with Syngenta’s objective to scale NUE products across emerging agricultural markets, including Latin America, India, and Southeast Asia, where input cost sensitivity and soil degradation are significant challenges. As NUE adoption increases, Syngenta aims to expand exports of NUELLO® iN and related innovations, particularly into high-fertilizer-use regions.
Global NUE product exports are projected to grow at over 10% CAGR through 2030, making Syngenta’s expanded portfolio a key asset for both developed and developing markets. Intrinsyx Bio’s technology can directly support fertilizer efficiency goals under the European Green Deal, India’s PM-PRANAM scheme, and other sustainable agriculture programs worldwide.
