FMC and Corteva Agriscience Collaborate to Expand Fluindapyr Fungicide Access for U.S. Growers

by Pamela Gu
June 14, 2025

Article Focus Summary:
FMC Corporation and Corteva Agriscience have entered into a strategic partnership to broaden the availability of fluindapyr-based fungicides in the U.S. corn and soybean markets. This collaboration aims to provide growers with enhanced tools to combat foliar diseases such as tar spot and southern rust.

Strategic Collaboration to Address Crop Disease Challenges

FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC), a global leader in agricultural sciences, has announced a strategic agreement with Corteva Agriscience to expand the reach of its fluindapyr fungicide technology within the U.S. corn and soybean sectors. This partnership is designed to provide American farmers with more effective solutions to tackle foliar diseases like tar spot and southern rust, which pose significant threats to crop yields.

Under the terms of the agreement, both FMC and Corteva will market fluindapyr-based fungicide products to U.S. corn and soybean growers. FMC will continue to offer its Adastrio® fungicide while developing new products containing fluindapyr. Corteva plans to launch its own fluindapyr-based product at the beginning of the 2026 growing season, pending Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration.

“This strategic agreement will introduce FMC’s innovative fluindapyr technology into a broader segment of the U.S. corn and soybean markets, which represent roughly 95 million and 80 million planted acres, respectively,” said Ronaldo Pereira, FMC president. “By partnering with Corteva, we’re providing more growers with access to the advanced tools they need to effectively combat costly and challenging diseases, helping them protect yield potential and maximize their return on investment.”

Fluindapyr: A Novel Solution for Disease Management

Fluindapyr, the active ingredient in Adastrio® fungicide, offers extended residual control and effectively manages pathogens that have developed resistance to other fungicide classes. Classified by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) as a Group 7 fungicide, fluindapyr is a critical component in comprehensive resistance management strategies.

“One of our goals is to make sure farmers have what they need to grow and harvest a successful crop,” said Jeremy Dirks, president, Corteva North America. “With the novel active ingredient, fluindapyr, we can provide growers with an additional effective disease management tool that complements the other fungicides in our portfolio.”

Global Reach and Future Expansion

FMC has successfully commercialized fluindapyr-containing products in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, South Korea, and the United States. Pending regulatory approvals, the company anticipates launching fluindapyr-based products in Chile, Honduras, India, and Ukraine.

Implications for U.S. Agriculture

The collaboration between FMC and Corteva is poised to significantly impact the U.S. agricultural landscape. By expanding access to fluindapyr-based fungicides, the partnership aims to provide growers with advanced tools to manage challenging foliar diseases, ultimately protecting crop yields and enhancing return on investment.
