Milliken Launches First Asian Chemical Facility in Singapore
Milliken & Company, a global diversified manufacturer headquartered in the United States, has announced the inauguration of its first chemical manufacturing facility in Asia. The new plant, located in Singapore, reflects the company’s strategic move to expand its regional footprint and better serve growing demand for advanced material solutions across Asia.
This facility marks a milestone in Milliken’s global growth strategy and supports its commitment to innovation in specialty chemicals. Cindy Boiter, Executive Vice President and President of Milliken’s Chemical Business, noted, “Opening this new facility represents the beginning of the next chapter of our journey in Asia.”
Supporting Growth in Microencapsulation Technology
The Singapore plant will also boost Milliken’s capacity in Encapsys’ microencapsulation technology—an area the company has focused on since acquiring Encapsys in 2021. Encapsys, a pioneer with more than 70 years of expertise, is a global leader in patented microencapsulation solutions that are widely used in sectors such as consumer goods, healthcare, and industrial applications.
Ed Zhao, Senior Vice President and Asia Managing Director of Milliken, emphasized the facility’s role in improving operational flexibility and responsiveness to customer needs across the region.
Singapore’s Strategic Role in Specialty Chemicals
Kelly Lai, Vice President of Chemicals and Material at Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB), highlighted Milliken’s investment as a vote of confidence in Singapore’s chemical manufacturing ecosystem. “The new plant’s advanced manufacturing capabilities will strengthen our chemicals ecosystem and meet growing customer needs in areas such as consumer goods and healthcare,” Lai said.
Milliken’s expansion in Asia underscores its global ambition to remain a key player in delivering sustainable, performance-driven material technologies worldwide.
Major Breakthroughs from Funding and Acquisitions:
- Acquisition of Encapsys in 2021 expanded microencapsulation capabilities.
