Strategic Investment in British Farming
Yara UK, a prominent global leader in crop nutrition, has announced the successful completion of a significant infrastructure investment at its Chedburgh terminal in East Anglia, reaffirming its commitment to British agriculture. The upgraded facility, part of a £7 million phased enhancement, underscores Yara’s broader investment program to improve safety, efficiency, and product quality across its UK operations.
The Chedburgh terminal now stands as a high-capacity hub for the production of nitrogen sulphur and compound NPK grade liquid fertilisers, following a complete rebuild of the production building and the raw material storage area.
Operational Enhancements and Output Growth
The redevelopment was meticulously planned to avoid operational disruption. Initiated post-2024 season and completed ahead of the 2025 campaign, the project achieved seamless continuity of service.
Martin Saunders, Terminal Manager UK Liquids at Yara, stated:
“With Safe by Choice in mind, Yara worked closely with the main contractor who delivered the project on time with no reportable incidents, showcasing excellent collaboration from all stakeholders.”
Thanks to a 60% increase in raw material storage capacity, enhanced high-efficiency mixers, and expanded pipework infrastructure, the terminal is expected to deliver a 30% boost in production capacity.
Product and Service Capabilities
The upgraded terminal will support Yara’s flagship NURAM, NUFOL, and MULTI liquid fertiliser ranges. With over 300 grades available, the facility enhances Yara’s ability to cater to the diverse nutritional needs of UK crops, particularly in the East of England and the Midlands.
Catherine McNair, Crop Nutrition Farm Account Manager at Yara, noted:
“Yara’s investment ensures the continuity of supply of high-quality, liquid fertiliser products to UK growers. The increased storage capacity significantly improves our customer servicing capabilities.”
The site is also supported by a team of FACTS-qualified Crop Nutrition Farm Account Managers, reinforcing Yara’s customer-focused advisory services.
Sustainability Commitment and Future Outlook
The project aligns with Yara’s carbon neutrality ambitions. Innovations such as new boilers, process adaptations, and energy-efficient systems are part of the terminal’s redesign, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint and more environmentally sustainable operations.
This investment solidifies Yara’s long-term vision of supporting resilient, sustainable British agriculture while maintaining product excellence and operational safety.
