U.S. Tariff Measures and Key Developments in China’s Vitamin Industry, April 2025

by Xu Ling
April 29, 2025

U.S. Tariffs and Vitamin Products Exemption

On 2 April 2025, the United States government announced the imposition of a 34% tariff on imported goods from China. However, a significant exemption was granted to major vitamin products, allowing them to remain tariff-free. This decision provides relief to Chinese vitamin exporters amid otherwise escalating trade tensions.

New Product Approvals and Innovations

On 1 April 2025, Minglei Weisheng achieved a milestone as the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved its marketing application for vitamin K1 drops for newborns. This innovative product is expected to fill a critical healthcare gap and strengthen Minglei Weisheng’s market presence.

Project Launches and Expansions

  • Garden Biopharma: On 7 April 2025, Garden Biopharma announced that its major investment construction projects—biotin and vitamin B6 production lines—are expected to commence operations in Q2 and Q3 of 2025. These expansions are poised to boost supply capacity and strengthen the company’s competitive edge.
  • Haineng Bioengineering: On 1 April 2025, Haineng Bioengineering hosted a high-profile launch event for its new 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 products, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and specialty nutrition solutions.
  • Guangji Pharmaceutical: In April 2025, Guangji Pharmaceutical published the acceptance test report for its comprehensive utilization project producing 1,000 tons/year (1%) of vitamin B12. This project aims to optimize resource efficiency and scale production sustainably.
  • Yize Pharmaceutical: On 28 March 2025, the Wuhai Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau publicized its approval opinion for Yize Pharmaceutical’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) regarding the production of:
    • 1,500 tons/year monohydrate creatine
    • 1,500 tons/year benzene phosphorothiamine and intermediates
    • 1,000 tons/year crude vitamin B6 and intermediates such as heptane and oxazole

This approval facilitates Yize Pharmaceutical’s strategic manufacturing expansions, aligning with growing demand in both domestic and international markets.

Strategic Cooperation Agreements

  • Cosmax China and Xinhai Bio: On 26 March 2025, Cosmax China formally signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with Xinhai Bio. The partnership aims to deepen collaboration across vitamin R&D, production, and global market expansion initiatives.

Industry Outlook

The developments in April 2025 reflect an industry actively evolving through technological innovation, strategic investments, and partnerships. With the U.S. tariff exemptions safeguarding vital export pathways and new projects coming online, China’s vitamin sector is positioned for continued growth despite global uncertainties.
